The Indian actor Irrfan Khan, internationally recognized for his films Slumdog Millionaire or The Life of Pi, died at the age of 53, in Bombay.
Khan was distinguished in Bollywood cinema for his training, talent and versatility, characteristics that led him to consolidate his work outside of his country and be recognized with international awards.
Sahabzade Irrfan Ali Khan, his full name, also participated in several films in Hollywood such as The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), Life of Pi (2012), Jurassic World (2015) and Inferno (2016).
His other notable roles were in Slumdog Millionaire (2008), New York (2009), Haider (2014) and Gunday (2014), and the television series In Treatment (2010). The release of his highest grossing film came with Hindi Medium (2017), which won him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. He also won a SAG award from the Screen Actors Guild of America.

The firm Hardly Anonymous Communications, which represented him, reported that he died surrounded by his family, in Bombay (India). “Surrounded by love, by his family for whom he cared most, he went to the abode of heaven, leaving a true legacy. We all pray and hope that he is at peace, ”the statement said.
Khan announced in 2018 that he had a neuroendocrine tumor and underwent treatment at a London hospital. Since Tuesday, Khan had been in intensive care at a Bombay hospital for a colon infection. He leaves his wife and two children.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to his death as “a loss to the world of cinema and theater.”
