As the year draws to a close, one thing is for sure: Colombia’s musical preference continues to be reggaeton, but vallenato is still present. Colombians enjoyed listening to massive amounts of music and podcasts, and now global audio streaming service Deezer reveals the 2021 winners.
Top Male Artist: If you’ve listened to Bad Bunny this year, you’re in tune with most Deezer users. The Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and producer became the artist with the most reproductions. He was accompanied by colleagues from the urban genre, his compatriots Rauw Alejandro (# 4), Anuel AA (# 9), Ozuna (# 5), Myke Towers (# 3), and the Panamanian Sech. Colombian talent and reggaeton also shone strongly, with J Balvin (number 2 after three consecutive years at number 1), Maluma (# 6) and Camilo (# 8). The vallenata note was put by Silvestre Dangond, who completed the top 10.
Top female artist: Colombian Karol G surpassed Dua Lipa and Shakira as the most listened to female artist of the year in Colombia. Her countrywoman Greeicy is in fourth place, ahead of Spanish Rosalía, superstar Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Natti Natasha, Doja Cat, María Becerra and Becky G.
Top song: Definitely Colombians love urban music. In number 1, the smash hit of ‘DÁKITI’, by Puerto Rican artists Jhay Cortez and Bad Bunny, is a reflection of this. Another Bad Bunny collaboration ‘La Noche de Anoche’ (with Rosalía), is at # 2. Likewise, Mike Towers’s ‘Bandido’ with Juhn, ranks # 3. Colombians Karol G and Maluma also managed to enter the top 10 with the feminine power of ‘BICHOTA’ and the lack of love of ‘Hawaí’. The different touch of synth-pop and dance is provided by Rauw Alejandro with ‘Todo De Ti’.
Top album: Silvestre Dangond ends the year in a big way, obtaining the recognition of the most played album in Colombia with ‘Las Locuras Mías’. Karol G follows closely at # 2 with ‘KG0516’, and the album ‘OASIS’, released in 2019 by Bad Bunny and J Balvin, is still current at # 3. For his part, J Balvin also beat Maluma’s ‘Papi Juancho’ with his album ‘Colores’. The also Colombian and urban artist Feid managed to place two of his albums in the top 10, and vallenato found a place in the hands of Binomio de Oro de América with the album that compiles his 30 best songs.
Top karaoke song: Would it be a good song if we can’t sing it? The song with lyrics that got the most views this year was ‘Yonaguni’ by Bad Bunny. Måneskin continues to ascend with the song ‘Beggin’, occupying second place, followed by ‘Pepas’ by Farruko and ‘200 Copas’ by Karol G. J Balvin also scored two of his songs ‘¿Qué más Así?’ (with María Becerra), at # 5 and the collaboration he did with various artists for ‘Poblado’ at # 6.
Top playlist: Most of our music fans often click on playlists selected by our local publishers. Our ‘Reggaeton Hits’ playlist was the most played in 2021.
Top Deezer Originals song: Deezer’s original album, ‘Reggaetón Acústico’ turned out to be a favorite in Colombia, as many of his songs became the favorite versions of users. In the first place is the acoustic version of ‘Millones’ by Camilo. ‘Me Enamora’ by Lenny Tavarez, ‘Jeans’ by Justin Quiles, and ‘Doctor’ by Mau and Ricky with Jon The Producer, were also in the top 10, among others.
Top podcast: This year, our podcast fans were eager to learn and be entertained. ‘DianaUribe.fm’ tops the list as number one, followed by ‘Suspiciously Light’ by Liss Pereira, Tato Cepeda and Santiago Rendón. And the interest of Colombians in mastering a new language led ‘Inglés from zero’ to # 3. ‘Waking Up Podcast’ also helped many users get inspired and start the day on the right foot.
Deezer Originals Top Podcast: Deezer Original productions offered a variety of entertainment for Colombians. Mainly, ‘Caught’, a production starring actor Michell Brown. ‘La Playlist de Mi Vida’ (# 2), ‘Leyendas del Rock’ (# 3) and ‘Esenciales’ (# 7) also entered the favorites category for their exclusive entry into the lives of artists. In addition to the music, local users enjoyed learning about ‘Millennial Astrology Weekly Horoscope’ (# 5) and trivia in ‘Wondering Ando’ (# 8).
Top Songcatcher song: The most searched songs in this Deezer song identifier tool were ‘Pepas’ by Farruko, and ‘Todo De Ti’ by Rauw Alejandro. The popular music song ‘You Don’t Forget Me’, by Joaquin Guiller, appears as the third most searched on Songcatcher. The fourth place is occupied by ‘Algo Que Se Quede’ by Grupo Niche, while ‘Sobrio’ by Maluma, was placed at # 5.
